“Mommy, we’re back!” Manon and I say in unison as we enter her tent.

This time, “The Fabolous Orpheus Circus” will perform in Shiganshina for the anniversary of the construction of the Walls. As a wandering circus, we change places frequently, with no sedentary settlement. Where we go depends on where we’ll perform: sometimes in Wall Maria, usually in Wall Rose, once, when I was little, the circus was invited to court, even in Mitras. Hence, my only friends are Manon and the other kids on the crew, and my family comprises circus performers.

Technically speaking, the Orpheus Circus is made of three families: the Orpheus (who set up the activity, famous for their stunts and trapeze art), the Davidson (famous for their clowning and juggling), and the Schumanns (famous for being animal tamers).

“I’m here, my loves!” Mom calls us from the back of the tent, her voice orotund as always.

She sits by her petineuse, putting make-up on her face for her performance. My mother, also known as “Moira” (the name was given by her best friend, Aunt Lara), is often described as beautiful, and she truly is. I always wished to have her straight hair, instead, we got dad’s crazy curls; thank god I have Manon who takes care of both of our hair, setting the curls in a perfect curled shape.

Today, Mom’s show is called “Flying to the Moon”, which includes using suspended bars or swings, gracefully soaring through the air, and executing a mesmerizing array of twists, spins, flips, and daring maneuvers. I know she’ll leave the audience breathtaking with her performances high above the ground, with her daring skills and aerial prowess. As always. I hope to be able to fly like her one day. To break a spear in my favor, I’m pretty good for my age, more than my sister, who lately gave up on attending the lessons mom gives us.

“Hello Mommy” Manon deceitfully goes behind her and kisses her made-up cheek.

I would do the same, but my sister is the mastermind when it comes to deceiving our parents into giving us something we want. It works every time with dad, but with mom, it’s another story.

“You look beautiful today, mama,” I say, trying to help the cause.

“’today’? You know I don’t like when people put a limit to my beauty, honey”  

My sister glares at me as for saying ‘I’ve got this, leave it to me’.

Go for it, Manny

“No mama, you always look beautiful” says Manon, curling her hair in her tiny fist

“Girls, the answer is no, you’re not going to perform today” damn

“Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease-” “That is not fair, you told us we were ready for the crowd! Are you embarrassed of us? Are we that bad with the trapeze and you lied to us?-” “-pleasepleasepleaseplease”

“Enough, both of you. You will not be up there today. And the reason is because I said so.” She says with a stern voice, putting her make-up palette down with force so that even the petineuse jumps.

We both shut up. Our mother sighs, rubbing her temples, trying to calm down. She always had a short temper but tries her best with us, and always calms herself when she yells at us. She slowly gets up from the furniture

“But Dad said we could do it…” I try to interfere

“And I should care about what your father said because…?”

“… because… he’s the other parent…?”

“That’s right. But after I spent more than 9 months waiting for you two to come out, in pain and in heat, and after pushing you all out of me for almost two days, happily discovering that I just had twins in a stall” she said threateningly in one breath “I get to have the final decision”

Manon and I share a glance. Peaks of having a twin is telepathy. We’re done here

“fine fine”

“c’mon go put your costumes on. Victoria, you are gonna be the ringmasters along with your father”

“I wanted to do that!” “ugh, I hate doing that. I want to fly with you!” Manon and I both yell at the same time, then grin at each other. We'll delight ourselves in an ancient technique used by every identical twin. Swapping.

The ringmaster is the master of ceremonies that introduces the circus acts to the audience. Sometimes, like in this case, the ringmaster is the owner and artistic director of the circus. My father descends from a family of circus performers, the Orpheus. As I mentioned, they are famous for their acrobatics and trapeze dancing and my dad was one of these athletes, known as “Mercury”. When he was young, he was my mother's partner in these stunts and so together they were known as “Moira and Mercury, the marvelous perilous”.

However, one day, way before my sister and I were born, during a rehearsal the rope he was practicing on snapped. He fell from 20 feet and broke his legs.  Since then and after a lot of therapy and exercise, he has remained limp and therefore now he limits himself to organizing the circus and being the ringmaster.

“Manon be cooperative, you were the co-ringmaster last time. And you, Victoria, be grateful. And be patient, I’ll let you fly in a couple of spectacles”

“a couple?!”

“yes, a couple. Now evaporate”

Before I complain again, Manon grabs my hand and we leave the tent.

“I don’t get why you don’t like to be a ringmaster” Manon asks me as he leans on my shoulder to put her shoes on.

“It’s so embarrassinggg”

“you make it embarrassing”

It is true. Every time mom forces me to do the ringmaster, I forget my lines and stare at the audience as my dad patiently waits for me. They both know I suck at opening ceremonies like this, and they always try me to do it. I know they mean well but it’s not working. My sister, on the contrary, truly enjoys doing it; sometimes she even dances while reciting her lines. I would just fly around with Mom like we do in our training, and not speak to anyone. Letting the wind go through your hair, not feeling your body weight, and just being free. This is what I want to do. Here. With my family and my friends. Traveling around the walls and letting everyone see our talents. Oh well, I’ll just have to wait a few years for it to happen.

“thank you, dear sister”

“you’re welcome. So what are you going to do while I take your place?”

She knows the answer. She just wants to hear it. It’s where I always go when mom and dad are occupied. I hide to read Aunt Lana’s old library collection. If I can’t feel free up the trapeze, I’ll enjoy my aunt’s fantasy books. After she died, rather, after she was killed, I had to hide them from the rest of the family, except Manon of course. I’ll read about the stories that she heard from travelers from around the walls, “witnesses from other worlds” as she would say. Stories of people who would fly on balloons, run on machines with four wheels, eat iced food (and even sweet clouds!), but most importantly stories of strange animals (zepras… no zebras I think they were called?). I wonder if there’s some truth in those books.

“you know where I’m going”

“yes, I know, but next time I’ll come with you! I miss reading them” Manon looks at me with a nostalgic and sad face, I know she’s about to cry. Sometimes, we both do when we read her books, as we can still feel her reading those to us, like when she was still alive.

I hug Manon tight, whispering to her “Don’t worry, Manny. We’ll do that right after the show. And when we’re all grown up, we’ll visit those places”

My sister gasps and her eyes light up “so you do believe they exist!”

I roll my eyes “yea yea whatever- ouch!” I stop because Manny pinched my cheek

“Say. They. Exist.” Ah, shit, she has that look again. Terrifying.

“They exist, they exist!”

“mh, good.” Then, as if nothing happened, she kisses my cheek, gives me a hug, and runs away before saying “Don’t worry sis, I promise you we’ll see the world that exists behind those hideous walls”

Just as I was about to grab the books and run away, I felt a presence from behind me. The sound of a cane approaching. Dad!

“Victoria is that you?”

“yes, dad. I was about to put my costume on” Sorry for lying Dad

“be quick, sweet girl. The show is about to start. Do you remember your lines this time?” he says as he gets closer to kiss my forehead.

“dad, I always remember them before the show! The problem is that I can’t remember them anymore during the show! And everyone looks at me and-”

“okok, I understand, my love. I was also a shy kid, you know? I understand, I promise. Now put your costume on and I’ll do your hair” he offers

Fuck “no, daddy, there’s no need. I can do it myself. I’ll see you backstage, okay?”

“Nono, Vicky. I want to do your hair. Please? You and Manon are growing up so quickly, I’ll miss doing these things for you”

“ok, I’ll go get the costume” I can’t say no to him, he’s always so unbearably nice. Great, now I’ll have to go around the city like a clown. Let’s just hope Manon and I will match

After he wets my hair and ties it into two half pigtails, he takes a final look and says “all done, baby. C’mon, let go!”

Before he grabs my hand I interject “let me just put a final touch to my make-up and I’ll come right away”

“all right, baby. But be quick” he kisses my cheek before going towards the ring.

“psss, Manon!”

“Vicky?”

“here, Manon!”

“why are you all dressed up? Had a change of mind?” she smirks

“no, I encountered Dad while I was about to go out and I had to put my costume on”

“…and your hair…” she side-eyes them, giving me a skeptical look

“oh god, is it bad?” I start to try and fix my half-ponytails. I feel my hair all knotted and tangled. Ugh

“no, they’re surprisingly good. Like mine!” she reveals that her hair is tied just like mine. Thank god!

“Good! We match, now go!” I kiss her cheek and run out of the tent. She’ll do great, like always.

Certo dia, a família resolveu fazer um cruzeiro e levaram consigo suas maiores riquezas. Pianist Lara Downes is famous for her theme-oriented albums, and this one is no different, honoring the music and marriage of two beloved composers, Robert Schumann and Clara Wieck Schumann. The program begins with Robert's Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 54 from 1845; continues with Clara's Three Romances, Op. 11 from 1840; and ends with Robert's Fantasiestucke, Op. 12 from 1837.

la tercera, de la cual de hecho no sabía su historia pero me puse a investigarla porque quiero que aprendas, avd jsjsj. bueno, es un conjunto de piezas de piano titulado kinderscenen no. 7, scenes from childhood y fue escrito por robert schumann. le tomó pocos días componerlas y fue en el período de su vida en el que estaba muy enamorado de clara wieck, quien se volvería su esposa a pesar de las oposiciones de su padre. en esta obra busca expresar su añoranza y recuerdos de su niñez ya siendo un hombre adulto. espero te guste.

la cuarta, es la fille aux cheveux de lin de claude debussy. es una pieza muy tranquilita y me recordó a como me siento contigo.

la quinta, es la leggenda del pianista sull'oceano de ennio morricone y la escogí por la misma razón de la quinta.

la sexta, es moonlight sonata (adagio sostenuto) de ludwig van beethoven.

la séptima, es nocturne op.9 no.2 de chopin.

"Todos Chelo" en el Federico Silva

El ensamble Omnes Cello nace en 2016 tras la inquietud de sus miembros de realizar un proyecto único y especial que pocas veces podemos encontrar en el medio artístico. El cuarteto de cellos está formado por un matrimonio de cellistas de origen cubano y sus respectivos hijos nacidos en Zacatecas, México. El proyecto acopla la experiencia y la frescura de dos generaciones del violoncello, abarcando un amplio repertorio desde la música clásica, con arreglos de obras de reconocido renombre internacional que se adapta muy bien a las características interpretativas de este ensamble. Integran el ensamble Roberto Gómez Argüelles, de origen cubano, que se ha destacado por su labor en la música de cámara y como profesor de cello en la Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas, ha participado como solista en varias ocasiones, y actualmente es violoncello principal de la Orquesta Sinfónica de San Luis Potosí. Aida María Gómez Jorge, que desde muy pequeña se ha presentado en numerosos conciertos en la ciudad de Zacatecas y San Luis Potosí, así como representando a México en importantes festivales en la ciudad de Moscú, Rusia. Jesús Roberto Gómez Jorge comenzó el estudio del violoncello a la edad de 6 años, y hasta la fecha ha participado en recitales y conciertos en Zacatecas, Aguascalientes y San Luis Potosí. Y Yaquelin Jorge Navarro, originaria de la Habana, Cuba. Quien desde 1992 hasta 2015, fue maestra de cello en la Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas. Muy importante ha sido su labor pedagógica, y haber participado como solista en numerosas agrupaciones de cámara. Actualmente es miembro de la OSSLP. Para el concierto que se llevará al cabo este jueves 30 de marzo en el Museo Federico Silva, Omnes Cello mostrará el trabajo de composición musical de Luis Ernesto Meza, joven talento que comenzó sus estudios musicales a los nueve años en la Escuela Estatal de Iniciación Musical Julián Carrillo en el área de guitarra clásica, con el maestro Emmanuel Mendoza Lara, y que para este evento estrenará su más reciente obra titulada “Ammi” (2017) para cuarteto de cello, inspirada en la figura femenina irreal, abstracta, inexistente, e ideal. El programa estará complementado por piezas musicales de Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Robert Schumann, Piazzola y Joplin, entre otros. La cita es este jueves 30 de marzo a las 20 horas en el Museo Federico Silva, jardín de San Juan de Dios. Entrada Libre. -

How are the scores calculated and what does it mean?

You Are Wanted is a German language 2017 television series created by Hanno Hackfort, Bob Konrad & Richard Kropf and starring Matthias Schweighöfer, Alexandra Maria Lara, Franz Hagn. It is an Amazon original series. Lukas Franke (Matthias Schweighöfer) is the victim of a cyber-crime attack. All his personal data, web and social media profiles get hacked and he gets accused of being involved in eco-terrorism. Lukas struggles to prove that he is innocent. His family, friends and colleagues doubt his innocence and start suspecting him. Lukas tries to find out who is behind the cyber-attacks and finds another victim, Lena Arandt, with whom he tries to solve the situation. The score is composed by Arne Schumann & Josef Bach.

Ah, a proper paranoia thriller with hacking and mayhem. I miss those. It doesn't seem like there are many of those in recent years. Maybe it's a thing of the past, but I truly enjoyed them back in the day. I'd love to see Lukas' journey from sane loving family man to an insane deranged person no one really knew, or did they? The score is composed by the duo Arne Schumann & Josef Bach, neither which I am familiar with so this should be exciting. The score opens with 'What We Can't See' and the composers goes straight for the retro approach with old sounding synths and they probably know that's my weakness. I can withstand most things, but give me some retro and I'm easy to break. Well, it's exciting to hear, and I'm even more excited about this score when I first started playing it.

Retro can only get you so far though, you need real composing skills for it to work in the long run. You need to know how to put together music in a way that pleases, and they do deliver on that. Check out the heartfelt and lovely piano opening theme in 'Leon's Good Night Story'. That goes straight to my heart and it doesn't stop there, and with a coarse trip to insanity, or a taste of it. Schumann and Bach knows how to write emotional music that's very clear, and what a contrast it was compared that opening cue. You really don't need to know too much about it, but know this: You will most likely love it if you are a fan of retro inspired synth music and a sucker for gut wrenching romantic music. I am happily both of those things, so this one is for me.
